Resignation letter FAQ
- What should a resignation letter say?
- Three things: that you are resigning from your role, your last working day (per your notice period), and a brief thank-you. That's it. You are not obligated to give a reason, criticize the company, or explain your next move — a short, gracious letter protects the reference you may need later.
- How much notice should I give?
- Whatever your contract or offer letter specifies — commonly two weeks in the US and 30 to 90 days in India and much of Europe. Check your employment terms first; the generator dates your last working day from the notice period you enter, so the letter is consistent with your obligation.
- Should I say why I'm resigning?
- Optional, and usually better kept brief. 'Pursuing a new opportunity' is plenty. Save specific feedback for the exit interview, where it can be delivered in person and in context. The generator phrases a reason professionally if you provide one and simply omits it if you don't.
- Is the resignation letter generator free?
- It's free to start with a ResumeWizard account. The generator produces an editable draft — set the notice period, pick the tone, generate, and adjust the wording before you export. Paid plans add more AI generations across all of ResumeWizard's writing tools.
